Feeling very lucky and motivated the first day of school!

Today is the first day of the fall semester here at SBCC and I couldn't be more excited! My journey towards where I am today started with an urge for traveling and the fact that I am a restless soul..

Let me start by telling you all a little bit about myself. My name is Malena, I am 28 years old and I was born and raised in a town called Vasteras in Sweden. I was working in the retail industry and I had been doing that since I was 20 years old. Before I moved to Santa Barbara, I was working as store manager at a pretty big clothing company in Sweden and after 18 months of doing that, I felt that I had to try something new. I always loved traveling and I have been backpacking more than once in my life, and I have been to countries like: Thailand, Malaysia, Australia and Africa, but I had never been to the United States.
So I decided to go to California, and what better way to see it than to be a college student, right?
I was 26 when I first got here in January 2013 and my plan was to stay for one semester and to experience Santa Barbara. Well, I ended up staying a lot longer than that, since I fell head over heels with this town and this college.

Today, I am studying towards my Associates Degree in Marketing and at the same time I am working with the marketing department here at SBCC. I live with two amazing swedish girls close to campus and yesterday we went down to Metro 4 on State street and we saw the movie "Jobs". That movie was so inspiring to me, and as I sat there watching it, I thought to myself that if I am willing to work hard and keep my positive attitude towards life, I can make my dreams come true and get the job of my dreams one day. I actually couldn't wait for it to be monday morning so I could go back to school and work!
I woke up this morning feeling more motivated than ever to start this semester!

So, a very warm welcome to my blog, where you will get an insight to my life as a swedish student in the US, my studies at SBCC, my journey towards achieving my goals in life, and all the fun stuff I do in-between in this beautiful town known as the "American Riviera"!
